This week, between 13-15 September, over 160 delegates attended the IBIA Mediterranean Energy and Shipping Conference in St. Julian’s, Malta.
Colin Holloway, Global Head – Technical, was in attendance as both a delegate and panelist, participating in the discussion on ‘Bunker Quality – How is it evolving?’.
During the panel, Colin analysed the increase in HSFO demand and the increase in sulphur content claims – up from 18% in 2021 to 38% in 2022.
“It appears that some operators are now blending closer to the 0.5% sulfur cap, and this along with a return of high sulphur fuel oil in supply chains could be reasons for the increase off-spec Sulphur claims” stated Colin Holloway.
