Cold Corrosion Monitoring Service (CCMS) for marine main engine cylinders
While slow steaming is here to stay in an increasingly cost-conscious industry focused on fuel economy and emissions reduction, long stroke and super long stroke engine designs have become the norm for modern vessels.
However, the combination of slow steaming – together with its operational conditions – and new engine designs have contributed to the appearance of “cold corrosion” of the cylinder liners (corrosive wear), caused by acid condensation within the cylinder resulting from a drop in engine operation temperature.
As part of our CCMS, we offer a unique piston underside oil analysis program to control cold corrosion and anticipate corrosive liner wear. By monitoring the parameters of piston underside oil, CCMS can detect cold corrosion of the cylinder liners in an early stage, and alert both onshore and onboard teams in due time.
